Given the themes explored in this exhibition viewers may find some materials to be sensitive. The CORALA exhibition addresses concepts of "race," racism, and anti-racist responses in Latin American comics, and examines historical and contemporary representations of racial discrimination, colonial violence, and systemic oppression, as well as the ways communities, activists, and artists have responded to these issues through comics. Hence, some materials may depict or reference harmful stereotypes, exclusion, and the lived experiences of marginalized communities.
These themes, topics and approaches are challenging and can be distressing. Although the images that may be considered more controversial have been blanked out and are only described in accompanying texts, the descriptions themselves - as well as the images that are included - may still be offensive, depending on the context in which they are activated. Recognizing the weight of these issues, the exhibition and the project that underpins it are committed to fostering a space for critical reflection, open dialogue, and engaged inquiry into the visual and cultural legacies of racism—alongside the anti-racist responses they have generated.
